[ome-devel] Backing up your OMERO.server **all sysadmins please read**

Dear All,

It has been brought to our attention[1] that the example backup script for using 'pg_dump' to backup your PostgreSQL database is incomplete. The last line of the code block in
 http://www.openmicroscopy.org/site/support/omero4/sysadmins/server-backup-and-restore.html#backing-up-your-postgresql-database
should read
su $DATABASE_ADMIN -c "pg_dump -Fc -f $OUTPUT_DIRECTORY/$DATABASE.$DATE.pg_dump $DATABASE"

This documentation will be updated for the imminent release of OMERO version 4.4.9 but in the meantime, if you are performing a backup, please ensure you include the additional $DATABASE at the end of the script.

Remember all sysadmins should be performing regular backups of the PostgreSQL database as, in the event of a catastrophic failure, no recovery of your OMERO server is possible without one.

Regards,

The OME team
