[ome-devel] shell accounts vs OME accounts

Richard,

You are right about the separation of OME accounts and shell accounts.

The use case for importing images from the OME host is that a user uses a
microscope and the microscope deposits images in a particular directory
(with correct permissions) on the host.
Then the user chooses to import the images into the OME database.

We are intending to add features to import images from the client machine
via the web interface. http://bugs.openmicroscopy.org.uk/show_bug.cgi?id=277

I am not aware of any Shoola agent that allow images to be imported from
the client side. However, you could use VisBio (separate java opensource
project which has hooks into OME via OME-JAVA)
to import images on the client into a remote OME host. Another way VisBio is
useful as it supports more microscopy image formats than OME does natively.

Hi,
Another structural question. The management of OME accounts and shell
accounts is separate. However the web client at least seems to expect that a
user will have a shell account, or at least a directory, on the OME host in
order to import images via the web client. Is there another way of importing
images via the web client? I assume the java clients allow images to be
imported from the client side - perhaps this is the only way....
