Dear All,

Further to the previous announcement[1], in preparation for the 4.4.9 and 5.0.0-beta2 releases of OMERO and Bio-Formats later this year, the code changes required to remove support for Java 5, and as a consequence for Matlab versions earlier than 2007b, have now been merged on both the dev_4_4 and develop branches. This means that if you are using daily stable or trunk builds of either OMERO or Bio-Formats rather than the current release versions, you need to be using Java 6 or 7 and Matlab 2007b or later as of now.

Users of systems such as RHEL5/CentOS5 which default to using Java 5 can download Java 7 packages from Oracle[2].

If you are using an older version of ImageJ, you can download an updated version which provides Java 6[3]. Note: it is vital you update your ImageJ if you want to upgrade the Bio-Formats Importer to make use of the latest format support[4].

Regards,

The OME Team
