Dear Bio-Formats users,

Starting with our next release later this month, the LOCI team is changing
the Bio-Formats license from GNU LGPL to GNU GPL (see
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GNU_General_Public_License for a primer). If
you are an end user and/or part of an academic institution, this change is
unlikely to affect you -- the "LOCI Tools" bundle is still free and open
source -- but if you are using Bio-Formats as a library in your software,
the license change might impact you depending on the license you use when
distributing your software.

One positive consequence of this change is that we are pleased to officially
announce our partnership with Glencoe Software (
http://www.glencoesoftware.com/) for commercial licensing and support
packages for Bio-Formats. Glencoe has been supporting the development of
OMERO, the Open Microscopy Environment Consortium's open source Java
Enterprise image data management solution, and has been instrumental in
enabling continued development of Bio-Formats. If you are interested in
purchasing a commercial Bio-Formats license or support package for your
organization, or would like to hire someone to develop code on an expedited
timeframe, contact Glencoe at bioformats at glencoesoftware.com. For other
inquiries regarding the license change, or about Bio-Formats in general,
contact the LOCI Bio-Formats team at bioformats at loci.wisc.edu.

Regards,
Curtis
