Dear All-

Just a short heads up on our status moving towards our 4.1 releases.
We'll be releasing updates to the OME Data Model, Bio-Formats, and
OMERO. A summary of what's happening:

-- we are on schedule for release on Oct 15. We'll let you know if we
need to extend this deadline.

-- OME-XML: alot of cleaning, simplification. See http://ome-xml.org/milestone/September%202009%20Schema%20Release

-- Bio-Formats:
---> New HCS formats
---> substantial improvements in metadata support, especially for
confocal microscopy
---> new metadata testing and validation system
--->  See http://skyking.microscopy.wisc.edu/trac/java/milestone/bio-formats-4.1

-- OMERO:
  ---> import of all formats supported by Bio-Formats into OMERO
---> Acceleration of import through more efficient calls
---> Support for HCS data in OMERO.insight (will be followed with
support in OMERO.web shortly)
---> Improved support for confocal data in OMERO.insight
---> A new OMERO system-- OMERO.qa. A system that allows uploads of
problematic data files to our servers, and lets users follow our
testing and work on these files.
---> Export to OME-TIFF
---> Expansion of functionality in OMERO Dropbox-- new files and
support across all major OS's.
---> Switch OMERO.insight to use OpenGL to fix Java memory leaks
---> Lots of updates to all OMERO clients, improving UI, workflow, and
usability

The priorities for this release were set following our users meeting
held in May at Institut Pasteur. We have stayed true to the demand to
improve data in and out, while trying to also advance new
functionality, especially for HCS.

There is a huge amount of work "under the hood" that lays the
groundwork for major changes in functionality over the next few
months. We'll announce more details in upcoming emails.

We'll provide further updates as we get closer to the release date.

Cheers,

Jason
