Thank you for providing the sample file. I was able to reproduce the issue as you described and have begun debugging into it further.

In attached folder there is a file called meta.ims.

This opens fine with

1. Imaris 9.0.1
2. Fiji > Plugins > BigDataViewer > Open Imaris

However using BioFormatsImporter in Fiji it throws below error:

Could you maybe have a look at this?

(The file is written using my own Imaris Writer...)​​
