using your script and Bio-Formats 4.4.8, I was unable reproduce the bug on one of our test CZI images.
Would it be upload one of your failing images at http://qa.openmicroscopy.org.uk/qa/upload/ ?

I can now reproduce the error using 4.4.8. My previous code which is compatible with 4.4.4 works
with the same image (size 1.3 GB)
