Hi Camelia,
You can import images from the command line on the server itself. Have
a look here: http://trac.openmicroscopy.org.uk/ome/wiki/OmeroCli
This will put the imported data in the /OMERO/ binary data repository.
Unfortunately this location will need to be the same size as your
'very large storage' if you intend to import all the images there,
since the data is effectively duplicated.
We are working towards a file-system solution to this problem
"OMERO.fs" where you will be able to point OMERO at existing images on
the server machine (without having to import them and duplicate the
data). However, this is a big task and will take time.
