[ome-users] importer and insight do not login

Hi Brian,
I looked through the site and could not find the client version 3.1.1, only 3.1.2, which is now superseded by 3.2.  I don't know how quickly our server admin can upgrade to 3.2 on the server so can you send me a link to the client 3.1.1?

Hi Brian and Jean-Marie,
Sorry I didn't get back to you last week, we had a holiday...

But here are the answers:
Ubuntu 8.04.1 is the server version
I am using the OMERO.importer and OMERO.insight version 3.1.2 and OMERO server version 3.1.1 (we started having this problem when we updated the server to 3.1.1 and clients to 3.1.2.)  Before that we were running 3.0.1 and had no problems logging in...

When I try to login I get:
The application failed to log in.  The hostname may be wrong or the server may be offline.

I am logged into the server via Putty so I know the server is up and running, I know the OMERO service is running and I have tried to stop/start the service so I know it is running.

Any good troubleshooting steps?

Hi Karl,

The error message you're getting sure sounds like an incompatibility between the client and server. Out of curiosity can you try and connect to the server using the exact same client version (so if you have a 3.1.1 server, try connecting to it with a 3.1.1 client).

I just upgraded my OMERO installation from beta 3.1.1 to beta 3.2 on Mac OSX 10.4.
And again I cannot connect to WebAdmin.
Remember, last upgrade I was forced to wipe-out the database and reinstall everything from 
scratch. This time I want to avoid this...

So here the steps I followed, please check if I missed something essential.
1) Unpacked the kit to a new directory (/omero-Beta3.2)
2) Copied local.properties form the 3.1.1 installation to the 3.2 /etc directory
3) Started the server (under sudo):
#!/bin/sh
JBOSS_HOME=/omero-Beta3.2/jboss-4.2.3.GA
export JBOSS_HOME
$JBOSS_HOME/bin/run.sh >/tmp/omero.log 2>&1 &
4) Tried to connect to http://machine.cscs.ch:8080/WebAdmin
The error I receive is:

Connection failure: Error creating bean with name 'init' defined in class path resource 
[ome/client/spring.xml]: Cannot resolve reference to bean 'managed-ome.api.ISession' while 
setting bean property 'sessionService'; nested exception is 
org.springframework.beans.factory.BeanCreationException: Error creating bean with name 
'managed-ome.api.ISession': FactoryBean threw exception on object creation; nested 
exception is ome.client.OutOfService: Cannot initialize service proxy

5) Maybe I missed the deploy step...
So I executed java omero setup-db deploy, but obtain the following messages:
