We are currently in the process of discussing how to make the
permissions more usable. We haven't considered basing default
permissions on projects, so please let us know if we should
consider that further. More likely are: user, group, and system-wide.

Currently the default permissions for the system are rwr-r-, which is
overly liberal in your case and many others. In the short term, it's
possible to script the reduction of permissions, but this won't be
ready for release until Beta4. (If you'd like to help with testing,
please let us know.)

And in general, the clients will have more support for setting what
the default permissions at each of the supported levels. If you can
explain your particular scenarios, "George is viewing project X, ..."
that would be immensely helpful.

Yes. This is also slated for Beta4, via OME-TIFFS with some
(to-be-determined) metadata support.
