[ome-devel] Trouble with OMERO.Dropbox

Hi all,

we have noticed some odd behaviour on our OMERO server when using the
DropBox import, that has been causing a lot of trouble in the last days:

As soon as a file gets copied to the DropBox share, inotify triggers
1000 (one thousand) "Modified file event of type IN_MODIFY" log messages
per second (var/log/MonitorServer.log), until the file transfer to the
share has finished. This alone is already causing a load of about 35 to
40 percent on one CPU (to be precise, that's the
lib/python/fsServerMS.py process). Transferring multiple files at the
same time makes this even worse, although it is scaling below linear.
Fife concurrent transfers are completely saturating this process with a
usage of 100% on one CPU.

Is this a misconfiguration on our side? I'd expect *one* "modify"
notification per second should be enough to to the job, instead of one
thousand, no?

Thanks a lot in advance for any help!
Enjoy your weekend!
~Niko
