Ilya Goldberg would be best placed to answer this. Can you tell us a
bit more about what you want to do with this library?

I don't think OMERO will "replace" OME; probably the wrong way to
think about it. The two servers are being built to explore different
functionality. Currently the OME server is released and supported.
This includes alot of useful functionality, most notably a well-
established UI and an analysis and data provenance system that
includes support for MATLAB. Note an increasing lists of papers
published with this system on our Publications page. A number of
labs are using this system for their work.
OMERO is targetted towards supporting remote clients that are able to
do more advanced image visulaization adn manipulation, and misses
alot of the advanced analysis functionality of the OME server.
This separation should be seen as temporary, and just represents the
difficulty of what we are trying to do. We are working on a
unification of these systems-- tell us what your needs are and we can
help you decide where to target your efforts.

The best source of info is at the BioFormats page:

Obviously, we'll help in any way we can.
