[lm-announce] Heinz Shwarz Seminar, Wed 03 Oct.

Dear All,

I am just forwarding this email from Cathy in case anyone missed it
earlier. This seminar should be of general appeal to all of you who
are interested in Light and Electron microscopy. Heinz is of the
(obviously correct) opinion that Electron Microscopy is an
"obligatory" tool for cell biologists and gives a great talk, so it
would be well worth you coming along to see if you think he might be
on to something!

Cheers,
Sam

SEMINAR

Dr Heinz Schwarz
(Max-Planck Inst for Developmental Biology)

"State of the art electron microscopy of intact cells
using novel cryotechniques and correlative microscopy"

Wednesday 3rd October 2007

13:00 hours

MSI Board Road

Host; John Lucocq

ALL WELCOME

Heinz Schwarz is group leader and director of Electron Microscopy at the
Max- Planck- Institut for Entwicklungsbiologie. He is one of the
best known
biological electron microscopists in Europe and has extensive
experience in
low temperature techniques. He has pioneered the use of high pressure
freezing combined with low temperature embedding and in particular he
promoted low temperature resins developed originally by the
Eduard Kellenberger's group in Basel. His recent work has focussed on
correlative microscopy, the use of TEM sections in light microscopy to
improve resolution, and the novel use of cryosectioned/freeze-
substituted
material for improved structure and immunolabelling.
