Hi everyone,

As many of you know, the Fiji distribution of ImageJ is bundled with the
latest stable version of Bio-Formats 4.4.x. As such, when bugs are reported
in Bio-Formats, it can take awhile before any bug-fixes make their way into
Fiji. This is because Fiji normally ships stable versions of Bio-Formats,
which are released only every few months.

With computer software, there is always a balance between "stable and
working" and "improving quickly". For those people who prefer stability,
and for whom Bio-Formats already does what they need, it makes sense to
stick with the Bio-Formats release versions.

But for those who need access to bug-fixes or new features as soon as
possible, it makes sense to have another channel to obtain them more
quickly. I am pleased to announce that there is now a "Bio-Formats daily
builds" update site which makes this possible.

Enabling this new update site is extremely simple:

* Choose "Update Fiji" from the "Help" menu
* Click the "Manage update sites" button
* Check the "Bio-Formats daily builds" checkbox
* Click the "Close" button

Five files should now appear on the list with "Status/Action" of "Update
it".

* Click "Apply changes"
* Restart Fiji

To verify that Bio-Formats has been updated, you can choose "LOCI
Plugins..." from the "About Plugins" submenu of the "Help" menu. The dialog
should now show a build date of "14 August 2013" or later.

Please let us know how it works for you!

Cheers,
Curtis

P.S. There are at least three Fiji bug reports which have been fixed in
Bio-Formats, but for which the fixes were not previously easily available
in Fiji:
