Hello,

The Open Microscopy Environment is pleased to announce a major update to the OME-XML schema files. These files provide the authoritative description of the OME Data Model.

This April 2010 release is a major (breaking) version that is NOT backwardly compatible with files created for the September 2009 release.

As this is a major release it makes use of a new namespace:

Full details of the changes made can be found at
http://www.ome-xml.org/wiki/ChangesForApril2010

Key changes made with this release include:
- A new LightPath object added
- A new PlaneAcquisition object and support for sparse HCS data
- Restructuring of Shape and other minor ROI updates
- Units documented for each value or marked as unit-less
- General schema cleanup to removing legacy elements

An XSLT transform from September 2009 to April 2010 is available here:

Thank you to everyone who provided input on these changes. We welcome your suggestions for further improvements.
Comments can be emailed to us or added as tickets at:

Thanks,

Andrew
