Running the installer with OME already installed will cause it to
automatically go into update mode. Updates from the previous stable
release (2.2.1) have been tested on our systems. Other update paths
should also work, but they have not all been tested.
In any case, make sure you have a backup of the database and your
installed OME version so that you can revert to what you have now.
Backup the database (use sudo or run it as root):
sudo ome admin data backup -q
If you need to restore,
sudo ome admin data restore ome-backup.tar.bz2
(or whatever you called your backup file if not ome-backup.tar.bz2)
If you want to work with a stable release, you should check out the
OME_2_4_0 branch:
cvs -z3 -d ':pserver:anoncvs at cvs.openmicroscopy.org.uk:/ome' checkout
-r OME_2_4_0 OME
or download the release tarball:
http://cvs.openmicroscopy.org.uk/snapshots/stable.tar.gz
Then, run install.pl as usual.
