is OME TIFF support on the roadmap for the importer? If so, could you tell for when this is planned?

Sorry to say, but OME tiffs are currently not supported by the importer, just "standard" tiffs. :(

There's a list of which formats work at: http://trac.openmicroscopy.org.uk/omero/wiki/ImporterFormats if you need to double check  a format.
