Problem has now been fixed.
To retrieve an object via OME-JAVA, a field has to be specified.
For an update, we shouldn't need to specify any field, we just want the
object.
I wrote some tests (update test under cgi), they are not failing b/c I added
the clause AddWantedField("id")
