OK, well I had my hand poised over the return key to commit this merge, 
then a vague memory surfaced that it was considered bad manners to 
commit big changes to HEAD late in the afternoon on thursday.  Or was 
it friday?
I did some testing and poking around, but its obviously not a trivial 
change.
So, I'll wait for you Europeans to crawl out of bed at let me know if I 
should send it off.
