As a followup, Tomasz suggested that I upgrade to the CVS version.
When I run the installer, it fails with the following error:
------------------------
Bootstrapping Database

What is the URL of the OME Image server (omeis) ?
[http://ome-sorger1.mit.edu/cgi-bin/omeis]:
Checking OMEIS repository [SUCCESS].

/home/tonys/ome_cvs/OME/src/perl2/OME/ImportExport/ModuleImport.pm

DBD::Pg::st execute failed: ERROR: syntax error at or near "$1" at

Something seems related here since both errors are in DBD::Pg::st near
"$1"... granted that the errors occur in different lines.
I am running OME on a debian installation.
