Dear All,

The LMF Spectris, 2nd floor Spectris, Mloor Spectris and Mfloor DV3 have now been upgraded and relocated to the Imaging Facility (Room 1L2-553 see http://www.lifesci.dundee.ac.uk/cast/light-and-electron-microscopy/how-find-us if you don't know where we are). Please read on for details about the upgrades, how to book and upcoming training:

1. Upgrades

All 4 DeltaVisions now have 7 channel solid state illumination, new microscope stands and new filters. They have been exhaustively cleaned and the software has been upgraded to the latest release. As of today the microscopes have been renamed as follows:

LMF Spectris = CLS DV "Tungsten"
2nd floor Spectris = CLS DV "Mercury"
Mfloor DV3 = CLS DV "Chromium"
Mfloor Spectris = CLS "DV Iridium"

Currently, Tungsten, Mercury and Iridium all have live cell chambers. Chromium will have a chamber fitted in approx 2 weeks. Tungsten and Mercury have QLM modules. Iridium will have QLM added within the next few weeks. Please bear this in mind whilst booking. We are updating the equipment configuration pages accordingly; please click on the microscope name in the equipment table at http://www.lifesci.dundee.ac.uk/cast/light-and-electron-microscopy/equipment for more information.

Please note that all of these microscopes are now unbelievably bright – expect to reduce your exposure times. Additionally, the DelaVisions without a QLM are even brighter (those with a QLM have the equivalent of a 50% neutral density filter in the light path). Please don't all rush off to book Chromium because of this – you will have more light than you know what to do with on all of them – but do be aware that your signal level will be different on those scopes without a QLM.

2. Booking and training

These microscopes can be booked by following the link at http://www.lifesci.dundee.ac.uk/cast/light-and-electron-microscopy/equipment If you have been trained on a previous model of DeltaVision you are welcome to book the new microscopes, but please do come and ask one of us for help if you're in any doubt. New users will need to contact us for training in keeping with usage policy before booking.

We are hosting a training event with ImSol which will take place in roughly a fortnight's time. I will email date, course content and details on how to book onto this at the start of next week. This event is not compulsory, but I would encourage those of you who use DeltaVision extensively to attend.

Best regards,
Sam and your friendly Imaging Team
