[lm-announce] Equipment Names

Dear All,

Over the coming months we will be upgrading and potentially moving some of the microscopes.  We will also be introducing a new webcalendar and support system.  Currently, the microscope names do not allow for us to move or upgrade them eg if we moved the LMF DV3 and upgraded it to Core it doesn't make a lot of sense to call it the LMF DV3.  So… we need a new naming system.  Users have told us that it would help if the names were memorable and easy to spell.  With that in mind we're giving you 3 options – we can either name them after disney characters (eg all the Dvs are disney princesses, all the Histology equipment is robin hood related), famous scientists from the world of microscopy, or chemical elements.  The equipment will be listed by Name/Equipment Type/Location on webcalendars email etc (ie Leica SP2/Minski/1.05B or Zeiss Palm/Selenium/1.05G).  Ultimately, this is designed to make your lives easier so if you have a preference please let me know.  We'll make a decision based on votes cast, closing date is 12 noon Wednesday.  If you really don't like any of them for some reason, please respond with comments.
