[lm-announce] LMF samba access

Dear colleagues

We note that most users access the LMF filesystem via samba (PCs and MACs) by typing \\lmf-smb\lmf<file:///\\lmf-smb\lmf> or \\lmf-smb.lifesci.dundee.ac.uk\lmf<file:///\\lmf-smb.lifesci.dundee.ac.uk\lmf>. You also have been able to go directly to your individual folders by typing \\lmf-smb\username<file:///\\lmf-smb\username> or\\lmf-smb.lifesci.dundee.ac.uk\username<file:///\\lmf-smb.lifesci.dundee.ac.uk\username>. We intend to upgrade the  LMF Storage to use a more stable authentication back-end and this, however, has the unfortunate consequence of breaking the ability to directly access your individual folder. You will still be able to connect using \\lmf-smb\lmf<file:///\\lmf-smb\lmf> (or \\lmf-smb.lifesci.dundee.ac.uk\lmf<file:///\\lmf-smb.lifesci.dundee.ac.uk\lmf>) and then navigate to your own directory/folder.

We believe this will only affect a few users (if any) who have been connecting directly to their folders.
