Dear All-

Just to follow up on this, why should you care?

1. The OMERO system is hooked into the Lifesci ID system. This means if you have an account on /lmf or use the microscopy facilities in any way, you already have an account on our OMERO server.

2. If you've never used OMERO before, then just download the appropriate client packages (see Chris's email, below), point the application to:

nightshade.openmicroscopy.org.uk

and log in with your lifesci ID.

OMERO.web is also there-- http://nightshade.openmicroscopy.org.uk/webclient

3. If you want to see the kinds of things OMERO does, see:

http://www.openmicroscopy.org/site/products/feature-list

(note the videos here are kind of old, we're about to update them, but they'll give you and idea)

4. In our lab, we use OMERO with Matlab for image processing. Ask Michael Porter in my lab for more info.

5. For those of you who use OMERO already, the big changes in this version:

-- You can now import data within insight.
-- You can now use larger x,y format images, using tiling, like Google Maps. If any of you have large tiled images, or histology images from virtual slides, give it a try.
-- Import is a whole lot faster!
-- OMERO.web is a whole lot better
-- and....wait for it!.......OMERO goes mobile! Point your iPhone, BB, iPad, or Android device to:

http://nightshade.openmicroscopy.org.uk/m

(if you want all the gory details, see http://trac.openmicroscopy.org.uk/ome/milestone/OMERO-Beta4.3)

6. Just to reiterate-- USING THE NEW CLIENTS IS MANDATORY!!! The old ones ( version 4.2.1 or 4.2.2) won't work and will cause you lots of problems.

Happy Imaging!

Cheers,

Jason
