> Dear all,
>
> We have an opening for an electron microscopist.
>
> Role description:
> We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated graduate or postgraduate life scientist interested in microscopy and electron microscopy to join our Imaging and Analysis Centre, to work in the electron microscope unit.
>
> The EM Unit, incorporates variable pressure scanning electron microscopy; high-resolution field emission electron microscopy; transmission electron microscopy and confocal light microscopy. In addition, the EM Unit offers X-ray micro-computed tomography, but this will not be part of the job description for the post offered.
>
> This is a demanding and technically challenging post in a dynamic and fascinating environment in one of the world’s great scientific research institutes. You will join a team of 12 in the Imaging and Analysis Centre, and will ultimately be responsible for helping to provide high quality electron microscopy (both scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy) and confocal microscopy facilities to users from a range of backgrounds examining a wide variety of samples. You will also be involved in the preparation of samples for electron microscopy, including chemical fixation, staining and critical point drying.
>
> The successful candidate will have a life science degree, or relevant experience and should have some experience of electron microscopy, research-grade light microscopy or confocal microscopy and also be computer literate.
> Training for the candidate will be provided across the full range of instrumentation and is likely to be ongoing for at least two years (dependant on the candidate’s level of pre-existing experience) and will require some occasional UK and international travel. The successful candidate will report to the EM Unit manager.
