Dear Colleagues

I recently mounted LMF filesystem used GPFS on Microscopes in Angus Lab, The Ground floor Personal DV and a few Workstations. After initial bench-marking tests, there are indications of improved write performance, which means copying files to your LMF folders will be much faster (~ 4 fold). However, the stability of the whole system was hampered by the fact that users were turning of the microscopes randomly. This affected the whole LMF system as the servers that host the GPFS cluster would be affected.
I urge users to desist from randomly turning off the microscopes. Should there be a problem with the microscope, they should report it asap. Urgent requests can be sent to this email with marked high priority and I will attend to them promptly. There are mechanisms to access these machines remotely, so most of these problems I should be able to resolve them remotely and immediately.
I will start re-enabling GPFS on all microscopes from next week.
Many thanks

Benny
