previous manager and some of the staff pretty well and would be happy

Job Description



The IMB Microscopy Unit (IMU) is a well-established unit within  
A*STAR’s Institute of Medical Biology, Singapore, which implements  
basic and advanced optical imaging. IMU works in three main areas:

(i)   to train and help IMB scientists to use widefield fluorescence  
imaging, confocal imaging and high resolution time-lapse imaging;

(ii) to facilitate the use of advanced analytical techniques in  
fluorescence microscopy (FRET, FLIM, FCS, FCCS and FRAP), 3-D  
imaging, high content analysis for cell and developmental biology  
research;

(iii)         to help organize and run workshops, courses and  
conferences on optical imaging.



IMU has links with the image informatics group in the Bioinformatics  
Institute (Singapore) and is developing software packages for high  
content analysis. Our staff have run an EMBO course on advanced  
optical imaging since 2003. IMU carries out collaborative research  
with A*STAR research institutes, the National University of  
Singapore, EMBL (Germany), the University of Dundee (UK) and Imperial  
College London (UK) through grant funded projects.



The responsibilities of the Manager will be the day-to-day running of  
the unit, supervision of an applications expert in microscopy,  
running internal training programs and outreach/international  
courses, workshops and conferences, and developing research projects  
in collaboration with IMB scientists.



Requirements:

A PhD in biological sciences or related discipline
Post-doctoral research experience an advantage but not essential
Expertise in basic optical imaging including image processing
Familiarity with Zeiss and Olympus microscopes
Experience with electron microscopy is useful but not essential
Experience with running training programs in optical imaging
Excellent communication skills
An enthusiastic and self-motivated approach to work
