Dear All,

To help you on your way in microscopy, we have done the following:

1. In the front of the log books (or, in AIL lab, on the back of the
door in the microscope room) you will now find a list of common
problems people encounter on the DeltaVisions, a list of phone
numbers and emails should you need to contact us, and a spreadsheet
showing the configuration of all of the microscopes in the facility.
If you want your own copy, drop us an email.

2. There are now desk lights and maglights on every microscope.
Please do not steal these. Come and ask us if the batteries run out :-)

3. In the workstation room, in the far left corner, there is a shelf
stocked full of 1.514 and 1.520 immersion oil. There is also lens
tissue. If you run out of oil, please bring the empty bottle down
and put it in the tray provided so that we can refill it.

4. The microscopy website has been updated and has a link to the
webcalendar and to the OMX website. You can find this at http://
microscopy.lifesci.dundee.ac.uk/ Expect to see updates to the
webcalendar and links to spinlock in the coming weeks.

5. We have reinstated the Light Microscopy admin meetings. These
are a forum for us to meet with PIs and Users to match the needs of
the facility with your research needs. The next meeting will be on
28th October. Once we have a full list of representatives, we will
let you know - please talk to me, or any of them about issues, future
needs, chronic annoyances and the things that are making you happy so
that we can act in your best interests.

6. Please remember the microscopy drop in clinics run on Tuesday
mornings. This is the easiest way to catch up with us to discuss
sample preparation, data analysis, future experiments.... etc.

7. We have some non-standard lenses available for you to use on the
deltavisions. These include a 60x oil, a 60x water, a 40x dry and a
20x oil immersion. These can be signed out from the LM office, but
must be returned to us after use.

8. We have pooled our respective collections of microscopy text
books, reprints of useful articles and useful microscope components.
If you don't see what you need when you use the microscope, please
come and see us. You never know what we'll be able to dig up....

Have a great weekend,
Sam and Calum
