Dear All,

Alison North, Director of the Bio-Imaging Resource Center at
Rockefeller will be giving a seminar at 4pm this afternoon, JBC Mezz
meeting room. This is about the practicalities of imaging with the
light microscope and should be of interest to everyone. For those of
you who can't make it, I would strongly encourage you to take a look
at her recent paper "Seeing is believing? A beginners' guide to
practical pitfalls in image acquisition" J Cell Biol. 2006; 172(1):
9-18, which provides a very accessible introduction to some key
concepts in sample preparation and imaging. If any of you wish to
explore these concepts in greater detail, please don't hesitate to
come and speak to me, Paul Appleton or Emma King.

Cheers,
Sam

Joint Seminar

Dr Alison North ( Rockefeller University, New York)

"Imaging or Imagining? A practical guide to microscopy....."

TODAY Monday 8 June 2009

4.00 pm

JBC Mezz Room

Dr Alison North is Director of the Bio-Imaging Resource Center at
Rockefeller University, New York. This imaging facility provides
light and electron microscopy services to a wide range of
researchers. Dr. North published one of the most useful, because
highly accessible, practical guides for the "do's and don'ts" of
microscopy in her paper: "Seeing is believing? A beginners' guide to
practical pitfalls in image acquisition" J Cell Biol. 2006; 172(1):
9-18. In her seminar she will provide a different perspective on some
of the most common practical pitfalls faced by researchers during
image acquisition and how they can affect the interpretation of the
experimental data. Alison is a lively speaker and her talk should be
useful to all of us.

Hosts: Sam Swift and Inke Nathke
