The final file synchronization of the replacement for Zeus has completed
successfully. We have a high degree of confidence that the new system
has all the files on it that the old system has.
It can be accessed as before through the alias
lmf-smb.lifesci.dundee.ac.uk
You need to use the share name lmf instead of zeus so for Windows users
\\lmf-smb.lifesci.dundee.ac.uk\lmf\
and for Mac users
cifs://lmf-smb.lifesci.dundee.ac.uk/lmf/
All references to Zeus are now deprecated as we have a new system with a
new name. Please note the following
1. In order to facilitate the move to the new system all the files
are currently being held on disk. However some of this disk has been
"borrowed" from other projects. Over the coming weeks we will be
migrating old files to tape and reclaiming some of the disks used.
The intention is to provide 50TB of disk on the new system compared
with 25TB on the old one.
2. Windows users will start to see black clocks against some of their
files. This is an indication that the files in question are migrated
to tape, and is one of the features of the new system. Mac and Linux
clients unfortunately do not currently support this feature.
3. The new system is comprised of a cluster of servers. Should one of
the servers fail, one of the other servers in the system will
take over the duties of the server. This should happen seamlessly,
however you might see errors if you where reading or writing a file
at the instance the server you where using failed. In which case
trying again should work. This is another new feature and should
lead to better performance and higher availability of the system.
If you have any problems that are not outlined in this email please
raise a ticket.
