Dear All,
Please remember that dust covers play a valuable role in protecting
the microscopes from dirt.
1) If you arrive at a microscope to find the dust cover has not
been replaced, please let me know so that I can politely remind the
previous user about the importance of replacing it after use.
2) When you take the dust cover off, please put it on the nearest
shelf rather than throwing it on the floor.
3) When you replace the dust cover after your session, please make
sure the lamps have been switched off and that the dust cover is not
covering any hot parts of the microscope - the bulb will still be hot
for some time after you switch it off, so make sure it's kept clear.
4) If you leave the microscope on for another user, you can leave
the dust sheet off as well. The onus is on the last user to replace
it. Please do move the lens turret round to a blank position to
protect the lens from gathering dust.
5) Microscopes with chambers do not need to have dust covers put
over them, but please bear in mind that if you are trying to do good
DIC or brightfield, you may well need to dust the top of the chamber
before you start. This can be done with slightly damp blue roll or
hand towels. Be careful not to scratch the quartz plate beneath the
lamp.
Many thanks,
Sam
