Dear All,
The LMF spectris has developed a charming habit which can cause
problems when launching the dv instrument controller (IC540) software
under windows. Basically, it gets as far as working out it has some
cameras (always handy) and then reports an invalid pixel size (which
is normal) and then hangs (which is not). Should you be lucky enough
to experience this, simply close the DVinst software, find the white
box on the floor at the back right of the microscope table (it's the
photometrics CH350 camera controller unit), turn it off (on/off
switch on the back), wait 5 seconds, turn it back on and restart the
DVinst software. If you're not sure, just ask.
Just to remind you all, although we're generally here between about 9
am and 6 pm, you are welcome to give me a bell if you have problems
(07900677591). I'm not going to rush back in and help you, but 9
times out of 10 I'll be able to talk you through a fix (NB please
think before you phone...) For those of you who have trouble finding
us during normal working hours, our office number is 88751 and we do
check our voice mail, email is good, my mobile works in some parts of
the building, and - ain't no school like the old school - you can
always leave a post it note on my desk. We're split across a lot of
microscopes now so we're not always in the office, but we will come
and find you very quickly if you leave a message.
Many thanks,
Sam
