Dear All,
Due to popular demand we have set up a new, centralised web calendar.
From Monday morning please make all bookings on this calendar. As of
12.30 pm today, please do not book on the yahoo calendars (this gap
will give us a chance to transfer existing bookings to the centralised
calendar). It would be a good idea if you could check the new calendar
on Monday morning to make sure your bookings are correct. Below, I
have written a quick guide to the calendar. I will be living it up at
a microscopy conference in Oxford next week, so all questions should be
addressed to Calum (c.thomson at dundee.ac.uk) in my absence.
Now is also a good time to remind you -
1. The CRUK DV is currently broken
2. All other DVs are functional, however only the high res camera is
working on the AIL DV3
3. You should not be booking either the 2nd floor or M floor spectris
for fixed samples
4. If the DVs are totally overbooked you may want to consider using a
confocal. They are actually quite good.
5. Please remember that I'm not the only person who works here. Calum
Thomson (c.thomson at dundee.ac.uk) is available for all general
microscopy enquiries. Paul Appleton p.l.appleton at dundee.ac.uk can
offer advice on confocal/MP microscopy and some software applications.
If Calum and I are unavailable, problems with the 2nd floor and M floor
spectrises can be addressed to Paul Andrews (2nd floor spectris) and
Laura Trinkle-Mulcahy (M floor spectris). Please only hassle them if
you can't find us.
Thanks for your attention. Now here's the calendar guide -
Go to:
1. http://www.dundeemicroscopy.com/webcalendar/FrontPage.html
Please bear in mind this is case sensitive - you may want to bookmark
it in your browser. If you have a problem logging on it will be
because you mistyped FrontPage
2. Log in with the same user name and password as your light
microscopy account (i.e. the one you use to log onto the deltavisions
or workstations). If for some reason you do not have an account or it
fails to work please contact Calum (c.thomson at dundee.ac.uk) who will
book time for you while your account is set up.
3. Do not book the Zeiss 510 from this site
4. Click on the microscope you wish to book. These are as follows -
a) M floor spectris (located in Angus Lamond's lab)
b) 2nd floor spectris (previously known as WTB2DV2000)
c) LMF spectris (previously DVin105e)
d) M floor DV3 (located in Angus Lamond's lab)
e) LMF DV3 (previously dvsignup_2000 - currently out of action, do
not book it)
f) BioRad
g) Leica SP2
h) Kauai - this workstation is now bookable (the one in the corner of
the workstation room)
5. Click on the microscope you wish to book. Do not change any of the
details that appear on the next page; just click "login"
6. You will now see the calendar. To book time, click on the + sign
in the top right corner of the day you wish to book. Please use the
following convention when booking -
Group and email: e.g. ISN p.appleton at dundee.ac.uk
Experiment type: e.g. Long time course
Date: this will be the date you clicked
Time: simply fill in the time you want to book. e.g. 10.00 This system
will not allow you to double book (good, eh?)
Duration: how long you want on. e.g. 2 hours
Click SAVE
7. If the microscope is booked solid or you can't get on when you
want, return to the FrontPage and either try a different microscope, or
click on "Overview of all booking sheets". This will show you diary
entries for every microscope. DO NOT BOOK ON THIS PAGE, IT WILL
TOTALLY SCREW THINGS UP FOR EVERYONE! If you hover the mouse cursor
over a booking, it will tell you which microscope is booked. these
will also be in different colours. Obviously you can now go back to
the calendar of the microscope that's available and book yourself some
time.
Have fun! and please report any problems or issues to me or Calum.
Cheers,
Sam
