On a political level, this is not easy and is met with some scepticism and resistance by some people higher up in the pecking pyramid. The most critical question I get repeatedly is about data and access security. If this installation is going ahead, there will be a lot of very sensitive research data (not NHS!) processed through the system. My IS guys here assure me that the access to their NAS is very secure, but they weren’t absolutely sure about the level of the client server system and the data base. From the OME website and third hand information I remember that there have been issues with the permission system in the past. Also, I heard that two PIs raised concerns about the remote chance that someone tries to deliberately hack into the system from the outside.
