Hi Yanling

The import folder is currently not working on linux. This is a known limitation, we have few problems to fix on the linux version of the Desktop client.

As you pointed out, The "import as" option is currently limited to administrator of the system.

Few people have requested to open it users with lower privileges e.g. Group owner.

I will update the various tickets with your feedback.

Thanks

Now I see the problem with the import tool.

If I login as root, then I can select user/group to import but by default I have only "root root" option to select.

If I login as a regular user, although the user is owner for multiple groups, the user can not access user list. So for import location I can only select which group to import and of course the owner for the new data will be the importing user.

Would it be possible to have a privileged user, not as administrators, but able to import images to other user/group?

The scenario is to have imaging facility technicians to upload images for their customers (users) but not necessarily to grant administrator rights to technicians.

Thanks,

Hi Jmarie,

I am using OMERO.clients-5.0.2-ice35-b26.linux, the ">" button is greyed out until I select some files (not folders). Please see attached screen shot.

As to import for other users, the group receiving images is Read-Only (group add --perm 'rwr---'...) .

Here's some details:

Importing user account: aaa

Receiving user account: bbb

Receiving user group: ggg

both user aaa and bbb are owners of the group ggg.

user aaa is a super user, it is the owner across many different groups, not only the group ggg.

After import, user bbb sees new data, but on the OMERO web client, the owner of new images is listed as aaa.

Thanks,
