For the past few months, the Laboratory for Optical and Computational
Instrumentation (LOCI) has been working to develop and deploy a format
adapting the OME-XML specification into a TIFF-based solution. Today, we
are announcing this format, OME-TIFF, as a proposed high-performance
interchange format for metadata-rich biological image data. OME-TIFF
combines OME-XML's extensible schema for image metadata with TIFF's
proven performance and compatibility.

For more information, see our OME-TIFF website online at:
    http://www.loci.wisc.edu/ome/ome-tiff.html

Resources available on the site include an overview of the format,
detailed technical specification, backend importer for bringing OME-TIFF
data into an OME database, and sample OME-TIFF data including a
comparison of various image storage compression types and formats.

Please contact Lead Developer Curtis Rueden (ctrueden at wisc.edu) or
myself with any questions.

best regards,
kevin
