Check on the webcalendar (<A href="https://www.dundeemicroscopy.com/webcalendar/FrontPage.html">https://www.dundeemicroscopy.com/webcalendar/FrontPage.html</A>) to see if anybody is on after you. If there is, leave the system running and the fluorescence lamp on, defocus the objectives, move your data to Zeus, delete data from the local drive and log off the acquisition workstation, fill in the log book as you go. If you finish early, it would be nice if you also called the next user to tell them the scope is available - this is one of the many reasons you should book time on the scopes as your email address, group and extension number (e.g. <A href="mailto:s.swift@dundee.ac.uk">s.swift@dundee.ac.uk</A>, LMF, x86412) as opposed to "Sam".</DIV><DIV><BR class="khtml-block-placeholder"></DIV><DIV><SPAN class="Apple-style-span">2. The spectris microscopes have cameras that need to be heat cycled. <B>If you are the last person on in the day, or the next user isn't starting for a couple of hours, you need to turn off the power strip at the bottom of the microscope unit.</B> You should all know what this is, but to remind you, it's usually at the bottom of the rack, is a thin black strip with one button on the right hand side (this is the on/off button) - turn it off and everything should get a lot quieter.</SPAN></DIV><DIV><BR class="khtml-block-placeholder"></DIV><DIV>3. You do not need to do this on the DV3s because they use different cameras. For all scopes, do not turn off either of the PCs and don't EVER turn off a microscope heated chamber if there is one.</DIV><DIV><BR class="khtml-block-placeholder"></DIV><DIV>4. Do clean the lenses with lens tissue. Do turn off the brightfield lamp. Do put the dust cover on, making sure it doesn't cover any hot areas, such as the brightfield lamp housing. When taking a dust cover off, please put them on a shelf rather than the floor.</DIV><DIV><BR class="khtml-block-placeholder"></DIV><DIV>5. When arriving at a system that has been heat cycled you will need to turn on the power strip and go to the windows PC and launch the dv instrument controller software. If using the LMF spectris, you will also need to turn the photometrics camera unit off and on, as previously explained (this is the beige box on the floor at the back right of the scope).</DIV><DIV><BR class="khtml-block-placeholder"></DIV><DIV>If you forget to heat cycle the cameras they will break. It tends to take a couple of weeks to get a new one and we may be liable for their replacement (about £15000 a pop), so please do keep on top of this.
